The Alliance’s July Almanac article, “How CME/CPD Professionals Are Implementing AI,” examines key findings from the 2025 Alliance AI Survey and the growing integration of AI across the CME/CPD field. Among the 199 respondents, 73% use AI for their work at least weekly, including 46% who use it daily. Adoption spans the CME/CPD lifecycle, with approximately 80% to 90% using AI across areas such as needs assessment, outcomes analysis, operations, content development and accreditation. As AI becomes embedded in routine workflows, the findings underscore the continuing importance of organizational governance, formal training and human review of AI-generated content.
ACPE’s audit of 180 activities submitted and active from January through June 2025 found that 45, or 25%, used topic designator ‘99’ – “Additional Topic Areas,” when a more specific option was available. Many could have been classified under disease state management, pharmacy law or administration, patient safety, immunizations, compounding, or pain management. Designator 99 is intended only for pharmacy-practice topics that do not fit categories 01 through 08. ACPE’s guidance provides examples to help providers select the most accurate classification. Accurate designators and content tags help learners and state boards identify activities that meet applicable regulatory or recertification requirements more easily.
Patients are increasingly turning to generative AI to research symptoms, evaluate treatment options, and prepare for healthcare visits, creating a new dynamic that clinicians must be prepared to navigate. A new Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) US survey seeks to better understand how patients are using AI, what they find valuable, and where concerns exist regarding accuracy, trust, and decision-making. As we’re all patients of the healthcare system at some point, we encourage you to participate in this survey. Survey findings may provide valuable insights that support future needs assessments focused on the evolving role of AI in patient care. As patient use of AI accelerates, education that strengthens communication skills, digital health literacy, and patient safety practices will become increasingly important.
